April 3rd- Rose Distribution around UT campus from 10a.m. to 3p.m

Every year White Rose Society passed out 10,000 roses to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. Each rose represents an individual who could be killed in one morning or afternoon in Auschwitz. April 7th

11-2: Symposium Kick-off (West Mall)

We will be out at the West Mall with FREE t-shirts and other cool publicity materials. Come learn about the rest of the week's events and get excited about human rights!

7-9pm: Justice for Darfur? (Garrison 0.102)

Sara Darehshori, a senior counsel with Human Rights Watch will discuss efforts to bring perpetrators of genocide to justice and the balance between accountability, amnesty and sustainable peace. We are proud to host this speaker with the generous help of the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Texas.

April 8th

11-2: Fairness Fair: Taking Action for Human Rights and Global Awareness
(Gregory Plaza)

Campus and community organizations involved in human rights activism will be tabling. The fair is a great opportunity for UT students to learn about past and current human rights offenses, as well as how to get involved in combating ongoing injustices.

5-7pm: Gender and Genocide (Calhoun 100)

Profess Adam Jones of the University of British Columbia Okanagan and founder of Gendercide Watch will speak along with UT professors about how gender is uniquely involved during the crime of genocide. The University's annual Take Back The Night, a gathering to break the silence about sexual violence will follow on the Main Mall at 7pm.

April 9th

11-2: Art, Rights and Humanity (Gregory Plaza)

Student contributed art along with prints from nationally recognized artist will be displayed. Participants will also have the opportunity to paint bottles that will then be delivered with messages about the problem of genocide. Additionally participants can chose to paint a tent that the White Rose Society will be contributing to the Tents of Hope movement. 7-9pm: The Arts and Genocide Education

Professor Erik Ehn, dean of theater at CalArts, will speak about his play Maria Kizito about a nun who arranged for the death of thousands during the Rwandan genocide. He will also talk about the use of art, specifically theater in teaching about genocide.

April 10th

11-2: Day of Action (West Mall)

We plan throughout the week and the previous week to collect change and donations to help displace the cost of the failed deployment of the UNAMID peacekeeping force, focusing specifically on the 24 helicopters they need to operate. We plan to decorate the West Mall rally area with toy helicopters and aim to fill a large container with donations which will then go to the Genocide Intervention Network’s civilian protection fund. We will invite media in hopes to bring greater attention to the need for these 24 helicopters. In addition to donating, students will be able to make phone calls, write letters and/or sign petitions.

7-9pm: Keynote Address: John Prendergast (UTC 2.102A)

As a long time Africa advisor, expert and activist, John will be speaking about the movement to build a permanant anti-genocide constituency, his experience with crimes against humanity and the importance of student in the movement. To introduce John will be Whole Foods Market representative: Jim Sud, Executive Vice President of Growth and Business Development. Following the keynote address will be a a Q&A.
